Search Clinton Court Records

Clinton court records live in two different buildings, so the fastest start is figuring out which one holds your case. The Van Buren County District Court on Moss Street keeps traffic tickets, misdemeanors, and small claims, while the Circuit Clerk on Main Street holds felonies, divorces, probate, and larger civil filings. A statewide search is a good first look. But call the right clerk when a hearing is close or you need an official copy. Run the Clinton court docket by case number if you have it, then confirm the status and next event with the office that keeps the file.

Two Clinton Court Record Counters

Two buildings hold Clinton court records. The Van Buren County Circuit Clerk, at 273 Main Street, Suite 2, Clinton, AR 72031, keeps circuit criminal, general civil, domestic-relations, probate, and juvenile files. The Van Buren County District Court sits at 234 Moss Street, Clinton, AR 72031, and handles traffic, misdemeanors, violations, small claims, and civil matters within district jurisdiction. Take an ordinary Clinton ticket to the District Court, not the Circuit Clerk. The wrong counter cannot produce the record.

Which court controls? The name on the first page of a filing or on a citation answers that. Neither court's case docket belongs to the County Clerk, who is not the default keeper.

Inside the Clinton Municipal Court

Official Arkansas sources call this local forum the Van Buren County District Court, Clinton Department. It is not a separate Clinton Municipal Court. The Arkansas Judiciary directory lists Judge Chris Carnahan at the Moss Street address. Its docket carries the lower-level cases most tied to Clinton. Those include traffic citations, misdemeanors, ordinance violations, small claims, and other civil matters allowed by law. The department follows the Ninth Judicial District administrative plan, which assigns new cases by computer. Two judges serve the wider district. Either one may take arraignments, probation revocations, uncontested matters, exchanges, or emergencies. So the Judge field on a Clinton court record may not match the judge who actually presides on a given date. Confirm the real setting instead of trusting a familiar name or a past docket day.

Clinton Court Records by Forum

Clinton is the county seat. That means city and county routes overlap without merging into one docket. Felonies, divorces, probate estates, and general-jurisdiction civil cases start in Van Buren County Circuit Court. Traffic tickets, misdemeanors, small claims, and violations normally start in District Court. An appeal from district court opens a fresh circuit case with its own number. Expect the original Clinton district record and the later circuit record to carry different identifiers.

Trust the court and county fields in Search ARCourts. A search for just "Van Buren court" can pull up the City of Van Buren in Crawford County. That city has nothing to do with Clinton court records.

Finding Clinton Court Dates

Clinton offers no standalone calendar portal. For a public participating case, Search ARCourts may list a Future Event. The District Court administrative plan also requires an annual printed and published calendar. That calendar carries court dates and courtroom assignments. When a Clinton appearance is near, the latest notice and the filing clerk still beat everything else. Later docket entries may show a continuance, reset, cancellation, or amended notice. So read down the list.

DateUse the newest active setting, not an older event left in the chronology.
TimeCall when the portal summary does not show a time.
BuildingConfirm Main Street for circuit or Moss Street for district.
JudgeCheck the recorded assignment and ask who will preside.
Setting TypeIdentify arraignment, pretrial, motion hearing, trial, review, or sentencing.

A payment receipt is not a hearing notice. Have the clerk read back the full date, time, building, room, event type, and whether you must appear in person.

Clinton Docket Space and History

Why does Clinton hold District Court on Thursday nights? The buildings tell part of the story. A 2005 county ordinance shifted Quorum Court sessions to the annex at 1414 Highway 65 South. One reason was to open courthouse space for those evening dockets. A later county-hours ordinance also records the courthouse schedule. Space was tight, so public bodies simply shared it.

Neither ordinance puts circuit court case files at the annex. The meeting arrangement says nothing about where the clerk keeps a docket or a case number. It only shows how Van Buren County fit several civic functions under a few roofs. For city context, the official City of Clinton site covers the county seat's civic life and local government.

The city view orients you, but the Arkansas court directories stay the authority on custody and contacts. Clinton's compact red-sandstone courthouse is described as Arkansas's smallest. That history matters most for older circuit research. An 1865 courthouse fire means anyone digging into early records should ask the clerk what indexes, microfilm, archival transfers, or loose files still survive.

Clinton Traffic Ticket Lookups

Start with the citation in hand. The printed ticket names the court, the citation or case number, and the allegation. It also gives the deadline to respond or appear. For payment, the Arkansas Online Court Payment directory shows the Clinton department as a participating jurisdiction. Pick the Clinton court only when it truly matches your ticket. An eligible balance there is handy. It is not the full Clinton traffic court record. It never replaces a calendar notice.

Call 501-745-8894 before you pay or contest anything. Paying a ticket can carry case consequences that depend on the charge. A payment plan will not move a hearing by itself. Deferred disposition or a driving course is not automatic either. The court publishes no Clinton-specific fee schedule. The Van Buren County traffic court records page collects the county-wide citation process in one place.

Clinton Court Record Copy Routes

A portal result is only an index. It is not the filed paper, and it never replaces clerk certification. For a certified circuit copy, contact Circuit Clerk Debbie Gray at 501-745-4140 or by fax at 501-745-7400. You can also start an email inquiry at gray.circuitclerkvbc@gmail.com. The clerk may handle requests at the Suite 2 counter. Or she may direct you to mail. For a district citation disposition, payment history, or any lower-court filing, one route remains. Go to the Moss Street District Court.

Ask for a docket printout, named filing, plain copy, or certified copy.

Be specific when you order. Give the clerk the full case number, the court, the document title, the filing date, the copy type, a delivery address, and a cost ceiling. Local copy fees and turnaround times are not published, so request a quote and payment instructions first.

How Clinton Cases Reach the County

Clinton does not sit beneath a county court tier for everything. District matters start in the Clinton department. Qualifying district appeals then move into Circuit Court under Arkansas procedure. Felonies and other general-jurisdiction matters begin directly in Circuit Court. They never pass through the Clinton district first. Circuit appeals climb higher. They go to the Arkansas Court of Appeals or the Arkansas Supreme Court, depending on subject and jurisdiction.

Docket flow: Clinton District Court › Van Buren County Circuit Court › Arkansas appellate courts

Treat that flow as a search map. It is not proof that each case hits every court. The docket header shows which forum actually holds the record. A fresh circuit appeal may carry a new case number and a blank event history. The Van Buren County court docket overview covers the county-level split. It does not move your Clinton starting point.

Missing Clinton Court Docket Results

A missing Clinton court docket result has several usual causes. The name may be spelled differently. Too many filters may be set, or the wrong county may be selected. The district department also may not expose the same depth as Circuit Court. Restricted cases and protected data can be absent under Arkansas court rules. Retry with fewer terms. Then try the full case number and check the court-location field.

Still nothing? Call the court printed on the notice. District staff can check the internal calendar and record path. Circuit staff can search the main case system. For older matters they can also check manual indexes, docket books, microfilm, and archives. For portal function, Arkansas AOC case-system support answers at 501-410-1900 option 1 or 866-823-5778. Case-specific status questions belong with the filing clerk. Keep private identifiers out of ordinary email.

Who Can See Clinton Court Records

Arkansas law and court rules set the limits on public Clinton court records. Arkansas Supreme Court Administrative Order 19 is the central access rule. It excludes protected identifiers. It also excludes anything made confidential by law, rule, or court order. Juvenile, adoption, and sealed records may be limited or missing. So may some protected family information. If a public image is absent, that does not open another access channel. Use the portal or the filing clerk for what remains available.

Key rules:

Administrative Order 19 governs public access and exclusions in Arkansas court records.

Arkansas Freedom of Information Act governs many agency records, while case-file access is chiefly handled under judiciary rules.

Arkansas Code § 9-27-309 supplies confidentiality rules for juvenile records.

The clerk can tell you whether a public record may be inspected or copied. The clerk cannot give legal advice or bypass a sealing order.

Clinton Court Record Visit Checks

County courthouse hours run 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, holidays aside, and offices may close for lunch. Those county hours carry no promise. A Clinton court counter may not finish every copy request before closing. Call first. Ask which building holds the case. Then ask whether the public file is ready, whether certification can be done that day, and what payment is accepted.

Request an interpreter or disability accommodation from the filing court ahead of time. The courthouse promises no public terminal. It also makes no promise of parking validation, lockers, or permission to photograph case papers. Building access alone never grants permission to record a proceeding. Bring the case number plus a short list of exact document titles. That preparation keeps the visit on the right file. It also points you to the right office for Clinton court records.
